Live imaging of nutritional transport in plants by using radioisotopes

Fujimaki, Shu

Kagaku To Seibutsu, 52(9), p.582 - 587, 2014/09

This review is explaining the concept of "radioisotope imaging" in plant science, its history of development, and various application studies to general readers. First, the history of development of the plant positron imaging and the technical difference from PET methods in medical fields are noted. Establishment of the methods of production and application of radioisotope tracers, analysis of image data, and the "root-zone imaging" is also explained with the examples of studies on cadmium transport. It is also noted that now new detection technologies including gamma camera and Compton camera are appearing and previous methods and know-how for positron imaging is also available in such upcoming experiments.
